     William Marcellus Goodrich was born on 21 July 1777.2 He was the son of Ebenezer Goodrich and Beulah Childs.1 He married Hannah Heald in February 1822.2 He died without issue on 15 September 1833 at East Cambridge, Massachusetts, at age 56.2

     Transcribed from Case: "changed spelling of name from Goodridge to Goodrich and took a middle name, Marcellus. Went to Boston and Milton and learned organ-building; then went back to Boston and began organ-building on his own account in Chambers Street, his first organ being for the Catholic church in Federal Street. In 1809, he traveled about the country exhibiting Madrel's "Panharmonicon," a combination of wind instruments played by machinery. He afterward worked for a firm of which his brother-in-law, Thomas Appleton, was a member, manufacturing organs and pianos. On the dissolution of this firm, he again began organ-building for himself, at first in Boston, then in East Cambridge, where he died."2

     Research Note: The statement above that William "changed spelling of name from Goodridge to Goodrich" makes no sense in light of the fact that Case had his father Ebenezer listed as Ebenezer Goodrich.3
