Caleb Goodrich was born on 1 September 1731 at Wethersfield, Connecticut.2 He was the son of Gideon Goodrich and Sarah (?).1 He married Huldah Butler.2 He died in August 1777 at age 45.2 He has also been reported to have died on 27 July 1777 at age 45.2 He resided at Pittsfield, Massachusetts.2
Transcribed from Case: "Born in Wethersfield, Conn; but of his early life nothing can be learned. The first learned of Caleb was from a record in the town clerks office bearing the date 22 April 1775, when a demand was made for men, "Caleb Goodrich and forty-two others marched to Cambridge and served six months; 14 Jan, 1776 with thirty-two others marched to Albany only for a few days." The last mention of him is "When news came that Burgoyne was advancing up the lake from Canada, Capt. John Strong and Lieut. Caleb Goodrich led fifty-four men, on the 30th day of June 1777, to Fort Ann, where tradition says they took part in Col. Long's sanguinary and most successful fight; was present at the surrender of Burgoyne's army; discharged 26 July, 1777; returned home, and lived but three weeks"
(It is because of this last sentence that I have listed his primary death date as Aug 1777 and not the 27 July 1777 date put down by Case. Why Case put down this date in light of his own evidence to the contary is a mystery to me. Also there is another point I want to make here. There are 2 children listed by Case that I have left out of the database. I have left them out because their birth dates are long after Caleb's death. Trying to figure out the truth of this matter is on our to do list).2,3
