     Josiah Goodrich was born on 9 May 1783 at Pittsfield, Massachusetts.2 He was the son of Josiah Goodrich and Abigail Wolcott.1 He married Rebecca Ripley on 29 July 1799.2 He died on 22 October 1835 at age 52.2

     Transcribed from Case: "began life a farmer in his native town, where he remained until the breaking out of the war in 1812, when he enlisted in the service, during which he received injuries which affected his brain; was discharged; returned home, and was taken under the care of his brother Horace, where he soon after died."2

     Note: There seems to me to be a problem with Josiahs' death date. The passage from Case implies he died not too long after the end of the War of 1812. I don't consider 1835 "soon after". Perhaps I am not understanding this correctly, but it seems to be a contradiction to me.3

     Horace Goodrich was born on 31 August 1795 at Pittsfield, Massachusetts.2 He was the son of Josiah Goodrich and Abigail Wolcott.1 He married Elizabeth Dickinson on 29 November 1828.2 He died on 29 August 1872 at Vineland, New Jersey, at age 76.2

     Transcribed from Case: "entered Yale College at the age of 15 years; graduated with honor after a four-years' course; he immediately began the study of medicine with Dr. Chas. Goodhue of Old Hadley, with whom he completed his studies; began the practice of his profession at Ware, Mass., where he continued for thirty-two years, until impaired health compelled him to retire to a farm at East Meridian Hill, Conn; finding a milder climate necessary, he went to Vineland, N.J., where he died."2

     Note: Either Horace's birth date is in error or his father's death date is or both. According to the dates in the Case book, Horace's father Josiah died 22 months before he was born. Obviously, this is not possible. If anyone has any documented information that can clear this up, we would love to hear from you.3
